Electra
1992, National Institute of Dramatic Art, Melbourne
In her final year at the N.I.D.A., Cate starred in Sophocles' Electra. A nice bit of trivia is that her
drama teacher at the time and also the director of this play, Lindy Davies, was then sharing a house with
another actor, Geoffrey Rush, and urged him to come see this "astonishing young woman". He did, and shared
her high opinion of Cate. Time would tell he didn't forget about her.

Top Girls

After graduating from the N.I.D.A., Cate joined the Sydney Theatre Company, where the first play she starred in was Caryl Churchill's Top Girls.

Kafka Dances
1993, Sydney Theatre Company, also for The Griffin Theatre Company
Cate as Felice Bauer, the bride in Timothy Daly's musical "Kafka Dances". Her performances with the Sydney Theatre Company did not go unnoticed, she won the Newcomer Award from the Sydney Theatre Critics Circle in 1993.

Oleanna
1993, Sydney Theatre Company
Cate portraying Carol, opposite Geoffrey Rush in David Mamet's "Oleanna", where a university professor is accused of sexual harassment by a student. Another nice piece of trivia is that Cate initially believed the play to be "a misogynist piece of crap", but did it anyway because it made her so angry. Also, for her performance she picked up her second award of that year, by also winning the Rosemont Best Actress Award.

Sweet Phoebe
1995, Sydney Theatre Company, also for the Croyden Warehouse, London
Cate starred as Helen in this Belvoir Street Theatre/Playbox Theatre co-production of "Sweet Phoebe", written and directed by Micheal Gow. The Sydney production was the first ever production of the play, it then moved to The Warehouse in London.

The Tempest
1995, Belvoir Street Theatre Company
Cate as Miranda in Shakespeares "The Tempest", a Company B production, directed by Neil Armfield. Cate was in this play with Duxton Chevalier, who earlier acted alongside her in the 1994 TV movie "Police Rescue".

Plenty
1999, The Almeida Season at the Albery Theatre, London
Cate as Susan Traherne in "Plenty" by David Hare, directed by Jonathan Kent. Opened April 27, 1999, closed July 24, 1999. Plenty traces its heroine Susan Traherne across twenty years, from her being in the French resistance in 1943 to London in the 60s. Written in the 1970's, this was the first London production of Plenty since its premiere at the National Theatre 21 years ago.

Cate in a theatrical presentation produced by the STC for IWC. Featuring Cate on film, with live performances from Joseph Fiennes and Australian physical theatre company, Legs On The Wall.
The show was performed live at the IWC gala during the Salon International de Haute Hologerie (SIHH) in Geneva, April 8, 2008.
